Visionary Leadership is where it starts

The most important NET Standard is Visionary Leadership. I believe the Administrator must have a plan and vision for what technology usage and incorporation will look like at all levels before trying to implement anything. Starting from the leader and working its way down, the development of a shared vision for "comprehensive integration of technology" will lead the way to the other ISTE components. First the Vision then the development of the culture; professional excellence; improvement and citizenship...

  1. That's it in a nutshell! I agree with you in that everything starts with the visionary leadership. That is where the planning stages, implementation, and communication begin. Yes, the other standards are all important, but the standard consisting of the visionary leadership is the backbone to all the others. And with out it, the other standards would not have a leg to stand on!

  2. I would agree that it is important to have have a vision. If any person does not have a plan or vision then we will either not move forward or we will move on a random path. However, I feel that ownership of the plan and the support of the staff under the guidance of the administration is more important. This allows the staff to buy-in to the "vision" of the school and continue to develop this plan.

  3. I agree possession of a vision is a top priority in any endeavour we undertake. But a vision, in my opinion, is a lot easier to create and sell than it is to implement. I feel this should be the first step, I just feel we owe it to our staff to provide the training needed to support our vision and ensure they are receiving the benefits of today's technology. I have enjoyed your videos and have shared them with many. No one has yet noticed the bear on the first attempt.

  4. Scout27817, My freshman class didn't notice. I think it works on ages 12-20. The critical thinkers seem to look all around. As former teachers, we look everywhere at once... We see all! lol

  5. I agree with scout. It starts with vision, but the proof is in the pudding. What parts of the vision is being implemented. Being a coach, we are more concerned with the results. I can draw up a great play that should work, teach it to the players, practice it, but they have to got out and execute it properly. If they do, the results are obvious. Same thing with implementing the vision, are the stakeholders carrying out the gameplan. Am I, as the leader giving them the tools necessary to succeed. That's the question that administrators should be asking.
